The property consists of 438 acres of tropical forest, rice terraces and grassland wrapped around the stunning two and a half kilometer long beach. This world-class beach is protected on both ends by cliffs and headlands ensuring total exclusivity for our guests.

Tucked away in the trees of this remote island are just seven luxury bungalows and three two-bedroom villas offering complete solitude in air-conditioned comfort along with everything one needs in an idyllic tropical setting. The thatched roofed bungalows and villas, hand-built by Indonesian craftsmen using local materials, have balcony vistas stretching the full length of the beach, the sea and the headlands beyond. At Nihiwatu your sanctuary is superbly outfitted in contemporary Indonesian style.

Dining options at Nihiwatu are designed to make your stay diverse, exciting and slightly adventurous. The chef and his team work to produce a combination of dishes that allow Asian and Western cuisines to meet in culinary terms. Every effort is made to find ingredients of the highest quality and have them delivered to Sumba as pure and as fresh as they might have been served at their origin. Perfect blends of Eastern and Western foods are presented with choices that change daily.

For everyone who loves water sports and much more....

Do everything or do nothing at all. Nihiwatu allows its guests to kick back all day overlooking paradise, relax by the pool, take leisurely walks along the beach or island excursions. Surrounding the resort are Stone Age sites and traditional villages that have remained unchanged for centuries, this unique tribal culture with its ancient animist rituals is truly incredible.

The ocean offers world-class waves for experienced body surfers. Or take a boat and explore the spectacular underwater world by snorkeling or diving.

Nihiwatu lies in the southwest corner of the island of Sumba, just about one hour east of Bali. The transfer from the airport to the resort will take another hour and allows our guests a first glance at this still very traditional island and the life of its population.

Of course we will book your connecting flights from/to Bali. Currently, there is one flight per week (Thursdays).

The Bali based team of Nihiwatu will ensure that your travel beyond the island of the gods will be smooth and effortless. You will be greeted by a representative at the airport in Bali who will take care of your check-in and accompany you to the VIP lounge where you will wait in comfort for your flight to Sumba

During your stay at Nihiwatu, your home will be one of the only six Luxury Suites and three two-bedroom villas. The interior design reflects the beauty of the surroundings; local materials and antiques have been carefully chosen to create the warm and welcoming feeling.

Haweri Villa

This villa is dramatically positioned on a small headland with over two and a half acres of spectacular waterfront land bordered on two sides by water with the jungle behind. The villa lies separate from the resort yet close enough to feel a part of it. Living here offers total seclusion and privacy. There are two bedrooms in the main house with a third bedroom in a luxurious detached bungalow. The villa also features its own waterfront swimming pool and magnificent, airy hill top dining room that has a fully equipped kitchen… and butler service.

Haweri is also available for weddings and other private events (rates on request).
